Discounted Continuing Education Credits

My recent PT on the Net box office alert let me know that for the next couple of weeks, I can sign up for California or Florida MANIA at the discounted PT on the NET member price of $183.22.* Right now on the SCW website they have early bird specials of $229.  This is an excellent price for a 3-day conference that will award me enough CEU’s to recertify with both AFAA and NASM.  The cycling workshops are presented by Schwinn, so I will have to petition MDA for STAR points, but at this price you can’t beat it.

Spinning Profile: IEZ #3 (3-3) Intervals

This is the third ride in a series that started with my post about a teaching plan I used for the month of January, 3 Weeks of Intervals.  Ride #3, which I affectionately refer to as “Even Stevens” was my favorite ride.  The music was a super-fun mix of Hard Rock and Retro Pop that was inspired by a mix I got from a CD Tree.

Spinning Profile: IEZ #2 (2-1 Intervals)

This is the second in a series of posts of profiles I used for my 3 Weeks of Intervals in January.   The first ride was 1-1 Intervals.  Today, we continue with the “Attack and Sustain” idea, but we double the time spent sustaining.  Much more challenging than Ride #1.

Spinning Profile: IEZ #1 (1-1 Intervals)

This Intervals ride was used as part of the lesson plan I described in an earlier post, 3 Weeks of Intervals.  It is the first ride in a series of increasingly difficult Intervals rides that were designed to get my group into some harder Strength Rides.

Oddly Useful Tip #4: Share the Love!

I know it’s quite en vogue these days to be “Anti-Valentine’s Day” and that trashing one of the most benign holidays left in our culture is the way to go.  However, I offer you a challenge.  Whether you have someone special to honor with a romantic sentiment, or you accuse Hallmark of hijacking the day, I challenge you all to find a way to share the love with someone who doesn’t have it as good as you do.

Last night I had the privilege of getting on board with a fundraiser that will raise money for Pattison’s Academy.  The kids at Pattison’s Academy have multiple disabilities that make it nearly impossible for them to have a quality of life you and I would find bearable.  Their families struggle daily with their care needs, and schools (namely here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where I live) do not have adequate facilities or staff to provide the therapy and learning opportunities they need.  I have pledged my time and money to support a 4-hr Spinning Marathon to benefit this very deserving group of kids and the people who care enough to give them a better life.

Today, on the day dedicated to showing others how much you love them, I encourage you to find someone who needs your love and share it with them.  Even if you are anti-Valentine, there is someone out there who could use your hug, your smile, or your presence today.  You could make a donation to a cause that improves the lives of others, or take some time to be with the infirmed, the elderly or the lonely.  It doesn’t have to be grandiose — every small act of kindness has larger effects than we realize.  Don’t hold back on sharing the love!

 Happy Valentine’s Day!

3 Weeks of Intervals

This isn’t really a profile, as much as it was my teaching plan for the month of January. When I can pull the music together on iTunes and Napster, I’ll be posting actual profiles on my website.  Time is a huge issue for me right now, so you are just going to have to accept that tease from me for now, I’m afraid!!

Even without the playlists, I hope you get something out of this concept.  First a little background:  I am very much into having a plan and knowing WHY I am asking my students to do something.  Are they improving or growing?  Does the ride have a purpose?  To that end, I developed a class plan for my regular Tues/Thurs morning group who have progressed so far I had to stretch my teaching muscles to figure out how to challenge them more….
